Sheer countryside beauty
Small wonder that the River Test provides the backdrop for spectacular natural beauty for most of its 40 mile course through Hampshire.
But it is this particular place on the river at Kimbridge just a few miles north of Romsey which always catches my eye.
The river itself is well recognised for its chalk stream fishing providing some of the finest trout fishing waters in the country, while further downstream you can see salmon making their way up the river to spawning grounds.
Yet angling attributes apart, it is the sheer spactacle of the river which becomes a favourite for the artist, whether capturing the beauties of the English countryside with crayon or brush and paints, or like me with the rather more simplistic approach of a camera — in this case the camera on an iPhone.
The river itself gives its name to the area through which it flows as the Test Valley, and even giving its name to the local authority. And who would think that the river estuary where it becomes Southampton Water and the hustle and bustle of the deep water port is less than ten miles downstream from this relaxing and tranquil psrt of the river.
