Mmmmm, tea at Waternish farm

Well I think this must have been the best tea we've ever had.Every single mouth full was delicious.
At 3.30 we went to Waternish Farm, just a down the road from the self catering.
We were greated by Lucy who took us into the cosy kitchen dinner in the converted hayloft. What a great setting. The sun was shining over the fields to Loch Bay and the cliffs beyond.
A warm welcome and a quick 'get to know you' and then Lucy told us all about the farm and the work they are doing to help the Corncrakes and wildflowers.A slide show of photos were shown. The farm has cattle and sheep which help to maintain the grassland that has been neglected for some years.Rush is a problem which is dealt by letting the cows in the field at the start of the year where they munch on the rush tops reducing it's growth.Next in are the sheep which finish off the job eating the remains of the rush down to ground level. Nettles, rhubarb and yellow iris have been planted which will provide early cover for the corncrakes. The grass on Skye takes a while to grow. More about it here http://www.waternishfarm.com/farming-at-waternish-farm/
Lucy then joined us at the table for the super tea.Wonderful sandwiches, salmon , cucumber and egg.Followed by a refreshing sorbet and mini cakes. The table was beautiful dressed with foraged flowers ( short supply at this time of year so a few added berries )
We had a glass of Elderflower presses and a cup of tea made with tea leaves :)
I nearly forgot , there were scones, homemade jam and cream too. Mike managed most of it but I took the rest of mine back in a little cardboard box to enjoy later.

In the morning we were heading to Portree but got side tracked exploring more little roads. Glad we did as we a golden eagle flew right in front of us. We drove on to Uig and saw the Fairy Glen, busy so we did nt stop.
