Me and my shadow

Strangely, I blipped a Penguin on this day last year - it was at the same place, but I can't guarantee this is the same penguin, as there are over 2,000 here at Boulders Beach, near Simon's Town. We always come here to see the Penguins and, as it is only a few minutes drive from our apartment, we can get there as it opens at 8am and have the place to ourselves before the coaches arrive. It is a real privilege to be able to observe them at such close range. They are African Penguins and, although they are listed as an endangered species, this is a thriving colony. We stayed a long while.

Then we made our way to Cape Point, at the Southernmost tip of South Africa. This is a very beautiful National Park area that we love visiting and never tire of. We know though that one needs to get to the Point early to avoid the crowds, then you can get to the lighthouse (we used the funicular for the first time today), wander round, admire the views and take photographs whilst it is quiet.

Then we went for an early lunch at the Two Oceans restaurant. Superb food and spectacular views. By the time we left the Point, it was thronging with cars, buses, coaches and people of all nationalities. We left them to it and made our way down to the Cape of Good Hope

This drive is alongside the most wonderful coast and there are often Ostriches wandering around - see first extra. I don't think Mum was very pleased that we were showing an interest in her three youngsters - see second extra for two of these fluffy things. The third extra shows the whole scene and what was going on behind them. This is the actual Cape of Good Hope, where buses and coaches arrive, throw out their passengers so they can have photos taken of themselves at the Cape of Good Hope sign and then get back on. We avoid all that and find a quiet spot further back where we can wander and watch the beautiful blue sea - fourth extra
