...a never ending story.......
So, off I set this morning to the local DVLA office to sort out the fiasco of my personal number plate, with my retention document, MOT certificate, yellow transfer section of the Vehicle registration document, Insurance policy and application for a new registration document.
It took about 45 minutes to get there....then I queued up for five minutes and then I saw a nice man. I explained about the dealership applying for a registration retention rather than a transfer....and about the dealership not supplying a registration document yet...and what I wanted to do....get the number transferred to my new car so I could put my personal plates on it. The nice man said "No problem, it will take about 30 minutes" and began to look through the paperwork.
Then......a sharp intake of breath......"Oh the dealership have given you the yellow transfer section from the original registration document....it shows the road tax as for a disabled driver....but they had a new document posted to them on 12/10/2012 and that's the part you need".
A brief discussion revealed that my options were to apply again for anew document....which will take about three weeks and then come back to arrange the transfer....or go to the dealers, pick up the correct document and come straight back and get the situation resolved today.
So.......I went to the dealers....about 20 miles away.....and strode in. The guy who sold me the car wasn't there.....but the manager was. He apologised for the missing salesman and asked what the problem was....so I gave him it.....both barrels....right in the chest.....all about the missing service record...the missing manual....the missing £20 fuel voucher.....the wrong action by not transferring the number only retaining it...I told him all about the promised visits to bring me the missing paperwork and the no shows.....I told him what the DVLA had told me...I even told him that it was a good thing that the little weasel who had caused all this mess wasn't in work or I would have taken him by the throat.
He looked embarrassed and went off to sort the problem....15 minutes later he was back....and looking angry....he couldn't locate the service record...or the manual...or the form I'd signed for the fuel voucher......he couldn't find the registration document....he couldn't understand what had happened. I showed him all the messages on my phone with all the promises to sort the problem out.
He asked me to forward all the messages to his phone...he promised to phone the DVLA and sort out the transfer....he promised to locate the service history and manual and he promised to sort the fuel voucher. I promised him that if it wasn't sorted soon I would be contacting the press and TV and I would be back and this time I wouldn't be calm and understanding. I'd make such a fuss in the showroom that sales would cease for the day!
I think one little ferret faced salesman is due for a rocket up the arse on Monday when he gets back to work.
In the meantime...if you're in the UK, whatever you do don't buy a car from Carcraft....the aftersales service is shite!
