Blip meet day 6 - At the Beach
It was a wonderfully warm day today as we headed to Hunting Island State Park which is on the Atlantic Ocean. We drove to the end of the park where we were able to walk out to the "Boneyard" beach area. This area is full of trees that have been destroyed by the mighty ocean over the years as it encroaches on the land. Now there are many more trees and the beach area is very narrow as the Hurricanes Irma and Matthew caused major beach erosion and destruction of habitat and trees last fall. I found these shells along this stretch of beach which is not very populated with people vacationing. The fiddler crab was seen at the boardwalk at another part of the park. You can see the size of the trees where Diane is standing close to the shoreline as she photographs an osprey nest.
In the extras, more of the trees on the beach and the lighthouse at the other end of the park. Again, you can see how huge these trees are from where Diane and Joyce are standing at the root system of one of the trees. The lighthouse did not have any damage from the hurricanes..they built things to last way back in the 1800's...even though the park lost all its electrical, water and septic system from the storms.
Our last full day here in Beaufort! A wonderful trip with good friends. Tomorrow Diane and I have to make our way back to my house so she can catch her EARLY flight back to Milwaukee on Sunday and Joyce will make her drive home to Florida.
I won't say we are done with this meet because tomorrow is another day!!
