Grades Happen Here
This is the canopy room that we created for our granddaughter Desiree, I think almost 8 years ago now. She is no longer living with us (she's 23 now and the mom of Tristan who is 5 years old). So I often set-up shop in this lovely environment so I can read and grade student essays.
I've just finished reading and putting a score on the last essay in a huge stack. I'm teaching four classes of basic writers this semester, and I'm more than overwhelmed. Their writing is simply awful. I think I could deal with that awful aspect if they had a large quantity of desire and momentum, but they don't. So this is not a joyous event. I do have a handful, a small handful, of quality students. They give me hope.
This room is on the side of the house that is just above The fountain and pergola. The luscious green tree just outside the window allows the sunlight to sort of sprinkle in through the mini-blinds. I like this room. It is a lovely place to read a good book, which is what I ought to do next in this room and get some space from all this grading.
Right now, it's late on this holiday weekend night, and I'm going to bed.
Good night from Southern California.
