Diary of an Edinburgher

Jersey Day Eleven

Our last day in Jersey, and we've been saving up a favourite place - St Brelade's - till last. Actually, we (they) didn’t walk there on the 'coastal walk', but went on the railway path to St Aubin's, so we had to walk this wee corner.

Another gorgeous day, though not the heat of yesterday. First stop was the church and the gorgeous wee Fisherman's Chapel. A beautiful graveyard, with all the (very varied) headstones still upright, unlike many of the ones in old cemeteries in Edinburgh, which are a health hazard now, and liable to fall over.

We then walked right along the promenade, past cafes, nice hotels, and flash houses. The surf life savers were out, but nobody was swimming. We walked right round to Ouaisne Bay and then back along the beautiful beach because the tide was then out further. (5.6km; 7,957 steps)

There was time for an ice cream, of course. Then lunch at the Crab Shack. Good choice. We were lucky to get an outside table, right on the beach. JR had a huge crab salad, while I enjoyed a seafood linguine, stuffed full of goodies.

Back home for more celebratory bubbles. A map of Jersey tea towel for JR to remind her of the walk. A book set in St Malo during the war for Anne and Bob The Light We Cannot See.

Back home tomorrow. What a brilliant holiday we've had. It could not have been better - the weather, the exercise (for some), the scenery, the food, the company, the 5* accommodation. And France. And the ice cream!
