Cemetery Cranes

After 3 stay-at-home blips, and a couple of "Your lumberjack looks like an elf"comments yesterday...I felt I needed to at least get outside.

I wanted to show the deer hunters in my family how to really shoot a deer. I saw 4, but they were SO far off. I did get one interesting shot with a NO FIREARMS OR WEAPONS sign...flanked by 2 does. It is on my Flickr page, along with some more crane shots.

I was taking pictures of geese at the National Cemetery when I heard the unmistakable cackle of sand hill cranes. I was also freezing. 33F and breezy. My hands were gone.

I hurried up the hill in the direction of the cranes...hoping they would stay on the grounds. They did. I tried to sneak up on them, using the hills... but with no cover...it was hard to do. Like the deer...they were too far away.

20...25...30 shots before they turned to fly away. I got a couple of flight shots...and then they were gone.

One of the kings of the bird world...so, I guess you could sub-title this...The Reign of the Crane as Shot by the Birdbrain.

I really don't want to complain...
but...my body heat I could not retain.
With no cranes left to entertain...
I returned to my warm domain.
