Farewell to My Forest Friends

For the 29 years that I have lived here, we have had a forested area directly behind our house. It is comprised of 3-4 acres, and WAS heavily wooded. My house, along with 9 other neighbors butt up against the property. We put in paths, some neighbors put in seating areas, and in my treed area, I had a big compost pile. Everything was hunky-dory until last month...when we heard the sound of heavy equipment. Uh-oh.

The piece of property is owned by a former factory that is now functioning as a storage facility. Their plan is to open up "our" property to store more covered-up boats and pontoons.

A lot of the neighbors are upset, but...the way I look at it is...we were probably pretty lucky to get 29 years of having a preserve...of having a small forested sanctuary.

Still...it's sad to watch.

The view in the lower right is the back of my house. I hope that they leave that small grove there...to block my view of the resting boats.

P.S. The backdrop is the huge pile of wood chips that a project like this produces.
P. S.S. We have driven 300 miles, and are spending the night in Cincinnati, Ohio. We have already visited our former Florida neighbor Faye, and will see her again tomorrow.
