Diary of an Edinburgher

Day out

Bike.

Gosh it was freezing cold this morning. But sunny! And so we decided to hit the East Coast, with Gullane Beach the main aim. No, actually, lunch was the main aim...

We know that a certain famous Edinburgh chef has opened a new establishment in Gullane, and so we wanted to check it out. And it did not disappoint!

Beautiful decor, and excellent food. Good sound system (with no screeching female vocals). I had a wee look around the whole place - through into what had been the old stables next door, with huge high ceilings and gorgeous decor. And it had a little pool room (as in snooker). Also, a very lovely sitting room with designer chairs and sofas, and today's papers on the table, with an outdoor area for pizzas and barbecues. Quite tempting to sit around a bit more and have a coffee (even though a flat white was £3.75!) but by this time Archie was fairly desperate to get to the promised beach.

And when we got to the beach, he was so happy and he ran between us for ages. (Extra 1). It's a beautiful beach, with only a few other people and dogs. He loved walking through the frosty grass to the car park, and kept rolling around on it. The frosty grass, where the sun hadn’t reached it, was like wee jewels (Extra 2).

But the main news is that Archie, though he looked pretty miserable the whole way in the car, wasn't sick! it was about an hour each way, so that was pretty good. Maybe he's got over his car sickness, after nearly five years...
