Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Home again!

Yes, I made it, but not without drama...

I patiently waited for the lab lady to come and take some blood this morning. She was later than yesterday... when she came in, she declared that I wasn’t on her list!! But how could this be? I was held captive overnight '...until your blood can be checked in the morning...'

So then the ward nurse took out my two canulas, enabling me to get dressed and look like I was ready to leave. When the doctors eventually came (they take AGES at each patient, which is normally a Good Thing), they said I could go home. Yay! BUT a mistake had been made on my discharge letter and they needed to sign another one.
'I’ll do that after the ward round.'
'Couldn’t you do it now? Please.'

The ward sister (or whatever they're called now) pointed out to me that they were Very Busy.

I realise now that I should possibly have used my plea of 'But I have visitors from New Zealand coming for lunch!!' (Not quite true - they're coming tomorrow for cake - just a little white lie.)

I gave up hope of getting home in time for lunch. Hospital fish and chips didn’t sound too bad (but would have been disappointing, of course).

Then the ward sister came back and said I could go home, she'd post the discharge letter to me. What a kind lady! In fact, I was very impressed with the staff this time. Some super, hard working, caring people, which has not been the norm in my many visits. Taxi home with a good hour to spare! Phew.

Jordan brought Archie back in time for a wash and brush up. Thank you, Jordan, your walkies today were even more appreciated than normal.

We had a wonderful lunch - much prettier and tastier than what might have been. It was great to catch up with a couple of ex-colleagues who hadn’t seen each other for years.

Archie ran right past me when he came home. Charming. But then he spent the afternoon following me around wanting to sit on my knee. Here he is in front of the new oven. He's unimpressed, but JR loves it. It's been pretty well used since it arrived - blueberry muffins, tart tartin and carrot cake... yum yum.
