Rain in Luz

We set of to walk the boardwalk at Luz, a village that was rebuilt when the original village was drowned by the rising waters of the artificial Alqueva lake. By the time we got there it had started raining so we inspected some Roman ruins in the hope the rain would move on. It didn't. The local museum, describing how moving the village had happened, would soon be opening so we found a cafe and drank milky coffee until the museum was open, then we took ourselves there.
I got in as a pensioner, Jan didn't have her ID and had to pay the full price, all of €2! The actual museum was rather sad as the films showed what people had to leave behind, in terms of history, gardens, trees, etc. You can get a new house but the rose bush you have been looking after for 40 years can't go with you.
The picture shows Jan and amandoAlentejo heading back to the car through the rain. The church in the blip is a copy of the original, which was demolished before it disappeared under the water.
For us "holiday" people the rain is not entirely welcome, but for the people who live here it is sorely needed, as it is for the lake which now is only half full after too many months of dry weather.
Rain on!
It wasn't all rain and greyness. We saw some Common Cranes that arrived here recently (amandoAlentejo). I saw an exotic (for me) and colourful Hoopoe (extra). Mike caught the whole group in a selfie (Mikedetrapia), and Jan (HarlingDarling) listed the many things we did today!
