WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

The Librarian

Yesterday a Blipper friend - Greengirl - put a verse of a poem on her Blip which I recognised from my childhood.
I thought it was in the poetry book which I've had for about 60 years. I was mistaken, but I also had the book that Greengirl mentioned - A Child's Garden of Verses.

This other somewhat ragged book though, has accompanied me throughout my life bringing me smiles, fascination, sometimes sadness and also enrichment. It showed me there was a world beyond my safe four walls and our garden(see extra). I was only learning to read when I first got the book and I can't remember who gave it me.

Inside it has been defaced a bit when I was playing libraries (see extra). I used my toy post office stamp on the inside cover and my friends' names are on the list along with my Dad's
Some of the pages are also sellotaped and there are a couple of baby scribbles on some pages - most likely my younger brother.

Nowadays, I hate to see books scribbled in and I'm sure I would have been told off for spoiling it. However without the defacing I probably would have forgotten about being a librarian when I was six.
