Schiehallion at sunrise

A dry day, but with a strong west wind

Just after dawn, I looked out of our hotel window and was fortunate to catch a clear glimpse of Schiehallion. This is one of the best loved Munroes, standing at just over 3000 feet. It’s name means, ‘Fairy hill of the Caledonians.

After breakfast, we drove out to Rannoch Station, which stands at the eastern edge of the rather bleak and dangerous Rannoch Moor. Walkers alight from the train and then head off for the twelve mile walk to Glencoe. It was cold enough just looking at the path, never mind walking the length of it. We were glad enough to have a welcome cup of tea and scone in the Station Cafe.

I guess you could do your ‘self isolation’ on the walk without much danger of catching the virus.
