Lockdown Day 5
Bb made dinner tonight as his cold is now much better (just a cold!). Pasta with tomatoes, spicy chorizo, ginger, garlic and onions. Delicious!
There were two extra 'community balcony events' today (making three altogether - a busy day!) The first was at lunchtime, which we couldn't take part in because we hadn't known it was going to happen and we just heard it, and hear it we did, as during a 'cassolada' everyone goes out on their balcony or roof terrace and bangs a saucepan with a spoon, stick or something to make a huge racket (it sounds quite musical actually) and it's in protest against something. Today it was to protest that the ex-King had accepted a gift of 60m euros from a Saudi prince and the people want him to ask him to give it to the health service. There was another one at 9pm, which we did take part in. See extra.
And somehow another day went by. Housework, teaching on-line course, regular sanitising of often-touched surfaces, and keeping up with our Airbnb cancellations and the constant news updates from around the world. No Aptis online tests and I don't think there will be many for a wee while now. I played around in Zoom, which seems to be the most popular platform for giving online classes as it has break-out rooms, an interactive white board etc and am attending a webinar on Friday afternoon to learn more.
I read a friend's posting on her blog today that she took her two little boys to a deserted play park (in Johannesburg) after 3 days stuck at home. The youngest one climbed onto a roundabout and then she also touched the roundabout as she was taking him off. Then she brushed against her 6yr old as she was helping him out of the car and he burst into tears, crying that he was scared he'd catch 'the virus'. Parenting must be tougher than usual at the moment and then I thought of my own niece and her three little kiddies (busboy's grandchildren) and the fact that they might all be home now for months on end. Wishing all the parents/carers out there lots of patience, love and intuition for those months ahead.
