Diary of an Edinburgher

Beach! Coffee! Ice cream!

What a grand day we had. Our neighbour who moved to his friend in the Lake District before lockdown, has arrived back, so it was great to catch up with him (and to remove the three huge flatpack boxes from our hall).

After a cool-ish morning, it turned into a super warm day. We decided to climb up the Crags, which is quite an effort, but now that we can drive and park there, it’s possible. But it was not to be. The carpark was quite busy, but big signs saying it was reserved for ‘key workers only’. Well, I don’t know how they’d check up, but, being law abiding citizens, we abandoned those plans and drove on to Porty Beach. And it was most pleasant.

The tide was right out, but Archie did go to have a paddle and, yes, a drink... We walked right along to the end of the beach, where I had my last ever school trip almost exactly ten years ago. Don’t usually manage that far.

We came back for a coffee and to sit and watch the constant parade of humanity - I could do that all day. A three scoop ice cream (for me) followed, while JR bumped into (not literally) an ex-colleague who lives there.

Back home, and the temperature was just right to sit out in the sun, but not melt. A G&T and audiobooks for a while, until the three wee girls from upstairs came down for a wee play. Archie was SO GOOD, putting up with their constant instructions to SIT! WAIT! PAW! HIGH FIVE! etc. Often all at the same time. It’s great that he’s getting used to little people. They even ‘trained’ him to hop through the hoop.

We have been thinking for quite a while about getting bikes. Fold up electric bikes. Watch this space.

A second day of NO Covid-19 deaths in Scotland.
