Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Misty moisty...

As expected, it has rained most of the day, and when I wasn’t raining, it’s been misty moisty, with low clouds hiding the mountains.

No worries, I’m still glowing from the great day we had yesterday. Anyway, it gives me an excuse to use the colourful umbrella in shots...

We had a late start, then drove to Inverary, which is only about 20 minutes away. We passed the wee telephone box, but stopped to have a look this time - it’s called the ‘Cake Callbox’ and has an honesty box for cakes and eggs, but pottles of jam at the moment.

We went to our favourite pub for lunch, The George. We stayed there with Archie a while ago, and it’s a traditional old pub, with flagstone floors and lots of different rooms. It’s famed for the food, and rightly so.

We had delicious meals - JR’s especially could, have been served in any posh restaurant. She had salmon grilled asparagus with a sun dried tomato and caper salsa with smashed new potatoes. Mine was steak pie, good ol’ pub grub.

We had a charming Spanish waiter, who has lived there for a couple of years - loves the place and the people. He brought me a very good coffee - double shot black with a wee jug of cream on the side.

It was busy, as it was pretty wet while we were in there. Lots of drookit folk came in with wet dogs. Such a shame for folk on holiday. Two old folk in our hotel had intended going to Oban today and taking a ferry trip to Mull, but of course, they should have done that yesterday.

When we came out, it wasn’t raining, so we took a walk along to see the castle, which is always worth looking at.

A leisurely drive home tomorrow in sunshine, I think.

Archie has been having a great time in his holiday house with Rufus.
Thank you for the birthday wishes yesterday.
