Carved Stonework.........
..................The tiny cottage in which I live has a surprising amount of stonework like this. It was built in 1887 to mark the Jubilee of Queen Victoria in the Gothic style which was all the rage at the time. My dining room window is arched like a church window and is flanked by two stone pillars - one either side - each topped by these matching pieces of stonework. When I first moved here, I was amazed that so much time, effort and craftsmanship had gone into the facade of such a very small and humble dwelling! There is more carved stonework too! I believe the cottage had just one room and a scullery when first built with an outside earth closet but was extended and "modernised" in the 1960s. Have tried to find out more but the original plans and those of the 1960s appear to have vanished from the face of the earth. When I have more time, I do intend to seek more info but the Archive Office is quite a distance away and they won't tell me anything over the phone!
The weather is cold and fairly bright - Temperature 4 deg -but the wind, as with the last few days, makes it feels lot colder.
