Diary of an Edinburgher

Hedge trim? No

No haar this morning! In fact it was quite a warm day. We took Archie up the hill for a run around, and he and JR walked home for more exercise.

We posted a birthday card to JR’s 100 year old uncle in NZ. He was on the Arctic Convoys in WW2, and must be one of the last of those brave men.

JR went supermarket shopping, then walked into town to return something. I briefly considered making a start on the hedge (which is going crazy in this warm wet weather) but couldn’t work up any enthusiasm for that task. What I did do was relax on the sofa and listen to a couple of podcasts - one was an interview with a cave diver about the caves and rivers under the Nurrarlbor Plain in Australia. On the surface it’s dry as a bone for miles, but underneath, there are rivers, lakes, caves and strange animals living there, as well as bones of ancient animals who must have fallen down a ‘sink hole’. Fascinating.

I also heard the story of nine year old Lennie Gwyther, who rode his pony, Ginger Mick, almost 1000 kms to attend the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. These podcasts, (‘Conversations’, by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation) are full of interesting and varied interviews. I’m never short of something to listen to.

I doubt that the hedge will get any time soon - More wind and rain on the way over the weekend...
