Getting in Tune

My first “proper” guitar has seen a few modifications over the years - including selling it to someone else for a few years and then buying it back when they wanted shot of it and finding it had been nicely reliced (or neglected if you’re being harsh!)
It’s a Squier Telecaster Custom and aside from the obligatory straplocks, the most significant upgrade was fitting Seymour Duncan pickups - a JB and a Jazz for those who know their pickups.
It plays and sounds superb but I’ve always had an issue with the tuners, being as they were just generic Squier/Fender chrome ones. Stay in tune well enough but just don’t appeal aesthetically. I’ve always preferred the Kluson style ones with the small kidney bean buttons, but couldn’t justify the expense of the genuine article.
Fortunately, Wilkinson make a damn good copy at a very reasonable price so I ordered a set at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, they were in Kendal and the guitar was in Chester when lockdown started, so it is only now that I’ve got round to fitting them. First attempt failed due to the wrong size ferrules being supplied with the kit, so I had to order an extra set in the correct size. Still not overly snug in the headstock but a judicious application of some gripfill took care of that.
Little bit of juggling involved to get the tuners properly lined up but everything screwed together very easily after that. Guitar restrung and tuned up without issue and it all looks very neat now. I will no doubt find out how well it stays in time over the coming weeks, but the beauty of this upgrade is that it is fully reversible if required.
Not a lot else I can do to this guitar now - except play it! Let’s just hope we can get back to performing live next year.
