Diary of an Edinburgher

Sightseeing

Libby took Archie out this morning. She has decided to go back home for the rest of her academic year - life’s not much fun as a student with just online lessons, and no social life. Might as well save money. I wonder how many more will come to that conclusion.

JR went off into town to try to get rid of all the foreign money stash, with limited success. They took the Danish Kroner, but wouldn’t take some of the other stuff as it was ‘too old’ and ‘folded’. JR had the good idea of using the Mexican money as tips in Mexican restaurants.

Archie didn’t require a bath when he came home, for once, and so after a vigorous brush, he was ready for off again. I was deciding where to go, and remembered Calton Hill, which I’d been near to yesterday, so I texted JR and told her to meet us there.

It wasn’t the best light, but it wasn’t cold and there was no wind. We had a good view of the new St James Quarter, and the spectacular hotel which has already got some nicknames (eg ‘The Walnut Whip’ or ruder -‘The Turd’- look at the shape). It’s opening in the spring, and I think it’ll give a big boost to the city, with an Everyman Cinema, hotel, and trendy shops.

I wanted my two companions to climb up on to the ‘folly’. They tried. (Extra)

PS Archie had a peaceful night, except for one incident which he’ll be embarrassed if I tell you. Oh go on then - it’s funny.

He did a little fart. Just a wee pfttt.... But it always frightens the life out of him, and he shot off the bed and had to be carried back. When he does it in the lounge (not often) he runs off and looks SO embarrassed! Of course, we laugh, which adds to his shame. I see on Instagram that this behaviour is quite common in dogs.
