Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Although still very cold on the first day of 2021, there had been no more snow, and the icy pavements had gone. Or so I thought. I took Archie a bit further as it was such a beautiful morning, but I then found out that all the pavements were NOT safe, but the roads were, and they were empty.

Such a sunny day - no wind - lured us up the hill. But it was treacherous. Oh look - there’s a good park up by the gate. NO! There was a reason there were no cars at the top of the carpark - it was like an ice rink. In fact, one car had stopped in front of us and could not get started again, and was slowly sliding back into a parked car. Luckily people came to the rescue and pushed it to safety.

The people sledging and stomping over the lovely snow yesterday had impacted it, and it was now just sheets of ice. Impossible to walk, unless you were on the grassy verges. I gave up and went off to visit Uncle A while JR and Archie went down the hill on the grass and walked home via the roads.

Watched an excellent film on Netflix last night, it was originally a stage play - ‘Hope Gap’. A gentle story, with no gratuitous sex, no graphic violence and no foul language. It made such a nice change. Starring Annette Benning (who was excellent) Bill Nighy (who was, well - Bill Nighy), and the lovely Josh O’Connor.

Welcome, 2021!
