Spring comes to the Meadows

Spring has definitely sprung, in fact this could be our summer if only the temperature would rise to double figures.

How wonderful it is to saunter amongst the crowds , soaking up the sunshine and admiring the carpet of crocuses lining Melville Drive.
Much of this colourful spring carpet was planted decades ago by the local primary school children and despite dog and human footfall, never fails to appear each year.

Sun shining on crocuses brings back memories of me aged about 7 standing on the path outside our house for the first time after being ill with either chicken pox or measles. In my memory it is Easter Sunday and I have on my new Clark’s sandals, a new straw Easter bonnet and a new coat. It was the custom then to have a new rig out for Easter. My Mother is taking me to church with my little brother. My Father is on the golf course.

It seems to me that more and more businesses are functioning, and more and more shops are describing themselves as essential and opening too. Apart from the fact that no-one other than students,it seems, can meet outside or go anywhere it seems almost normal.
