A-flap

We got up and out promptly today, so as to make the most of the sunshine and calm before the forecast storm arrived. Our walk took us along the village stream to the sea at Emsworth Yacht Basin where we’d planned to have a flask of tea and cake. By the time we got there, the wind had however already picked up so much that we decided to retreat inland to a small nature reserve for our refreshments.

Sandwiched between a busy road, the back of Tesco’s and the River Ems, it was an absolute delight. The area could have so easily been a wasteland but it is carefully managed by volunteers and filled with wildlife which you can watch from the meandering trails and benches.

Here is Merlin, his ears all a-flap in the wind at the yacht harbour. It rather stirred him up but he sat quietly whilst we had our little picnic. He had his own bowl for water and biscuits so he didn’t go thirsty or hungry. He spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon peacefully sleeping (until requesting his afternoon walk!).
