Once upon a time dreams became reality...

...so says the graffiti above the last lock entrance - Ickles Lock. I think lots of people round here wish it were true :-( . The rubbish is just normality here. A whole roll of garden fleece was floating among the beer cans and gin bottles jusy waiting to get knotted round some poor boater's prop. It would have been impossible to get it out safely so it's to be hoped CRT have a clean up soon.
A relentless task I expect.

We're at Holme Lock now just before the Tinsley flight I wrote about yesterday.
We've booked to go through at 9.30 tomorrow morning.
It's been bucketing it down since we arrived, I'm back in my thermals and the stove is lit!

On a happier note, we were 'serenaded' earlier by a group of lads who were sheltering under the bridge. They were smoking but also singing at the tops of their voices in a foreign language I couldn't quite place. They sounded quite operatic and had some good harmonies but were really just having a laugh. I opened the front doors and told them it was wonderful and gave them an encouraging wave.
I've been trying to draw/paint a pigeon and doing some knitting and now I'm going to read my book.

I am not complaining, as boaters, we take the rough with the smooth and I am grateful for this wonderful life and all it has to offer.
I just wish these run down towns would be given the resources to improve the lives of the people who live here. I'm sure they must feel let down and that nobody cares after the steel industry and coal mines collapsed all those years ago. The north south divide is so visible here.
There does seem to be a lot of building work going on and I believe Rotherham has a big improvement scheme going on which I hope will give the town some of its pride back.

I'm going on a bit aren't I? 

Anyway, tea time. Garlic mushrooms on toast followed by chopped banana and Alpro chocolate pudding. Yum!
