Everyday I Write The Book

Shopping for ideas

We went to IKEA tonight, not so much to buy as to look for ideas about renovating the kitchen. We had their plant based meatballs and chips before wandering around; TSM likes to feed me as I get hangry shopping on an empty stomach and it was about 7.30 by the time we got there.

We tugged a yellow basket on wheels around with us and went ‘round the wrong way by accident. They shine directional arrows on to the ground from projectors hidden in the ceiling and I swear they got bigger and angrier as we made our way from room to room, as if they were saying "turn around, turn around". When you get down to the marketplace you have to swop your wheeled basket for a trolley, whether you want to or not. A funny little man just kept saying "company policy, sorry madam" when we complained. He kept saying it even as we walked away, as though the string in his back had been pulled out too far and his mechanism had got stuck.

The kitchens were disappointing but I liked these racks. We’re thinking of going for a more open plan look. We bought some odds and ends but spent more in the food shop than the store itself. Salmon for The Dizzle. Chocolate for Strider. Biscuits for everyone.

The rest of the day was plagued by weather and traffic and a degree of indecision. The engineering works on the trains scuppered our plans to go to London and there were crashes on the M25 so we went into town for coffee and drove up later to spend a couple of hours with The Yoga Mama, who was on fine form and very happy to see us.

Good day despite having to change our plans.
