A Garden Day + Bingo!
No I wasn't playing Bingo, but all the neighbourhood kids collected in Sarah's garden next door and Rachel from across the back was the Bingo caller.
While I was digging spuds up and weeding I was listening to legs 11, 2 little ducks, key of the door 21 and 2 fat ladies 88 + Line! and House!
One of the little girls came to look over the fence at the garden and said how it had changed. She must have seen my puzzled look and went on to say she had lived here before we moved in. I remember the previous occupant had a 5 year old daughter and this was her - Maisie - now aged 8. I invited her to have a look inside her old house and she was surprised how different it looked, especially her bedroom.
I've also been having a few 5-10 minute practises on the ukulele to get myself back into it. I ordered new strings yesterday and they should arrive later.
I'm now sitting having a beer - Frank's homebrew - while I wait for dinner. He's making vegan sausage rolls which we will have with the broad beans our next door but one neighbour gave us. Yum!
Seeing the news this morning about all the devastation throughout the world caused by climate change makes me grateful for my life here where we are relatively safe from fire and floods but there for for the grace of God (any God) go we. I remember forest fires in Yorkshire in 2019 and floods in various parts of the country.
Also when we were watching The Handmaid's Tale last night and then I saw the news about the Taliban in Afghanistan I said to Frank how similar the situation is.
All it takes is a few fanatics to take over a country, like Hitler did. How awful for the children under Taliban rule that they can no longer go to school and the women can no longer work.
We must value and make the most of each day we have on this earth, look after our planet for the young generations and welcome refugees from war torn places.
