Berry feast on a berry nice walk!
A lovely family day in very warm sunshine after the threat of drizzle again first thing.
A leisurely start to Saturday, we were treated to a lovely late breakfast/brunch made by John. Jude was having her morning nap and came down in time for a second breakfast which she didn’t object to at all!
We headed out for a circular walk up to (Little) Solsbury Hill. Chris hasn’t been before but we took the same route as I had last time through the hills and woods above the house. Much more foliage than on my last walk, but great views again over Bath. (John took a family group with Eda having a pout on the trig point - extra) Snacks and treats were partaken of before returning via a different route, new to me, via Swainswick Lane to complete the circular. I’m pleased to say that I saw more butterflies today than I have all summer but all were on the move.
We left the Lane to cross the fields back to Bailbrook continuing through a farm in which you can see the orchards and vegetable growing areas, some still in use, that made up the Market Garden which was originally here, the village cottages being built for the employees.
On the other side of the path were more blackberries than I think any of us have ever seen! We hadn’t any containers to collect them but it didn’t stop them being eaten! Eda loves them but Jude has obviously never tried them before. She certainly didn’t refuse any. They both had a feast and Eda declared it was the best day ever!
We are baby sitting tonight as Grace and John (extra 2) have gone out to celebrate their forthcoming 8th wedding anniversary on Tuesday. We’ve done bath and bedtime routines and all is now peaceful.
It’s been a lovely day to end our stay.
