Boat - Day one

First day of narrowboat trip - we collected the boat from Market Harborough at lunchtime and after a familiarisation session we were on our way. I was second skipper so OH was in charge and to start with actually driving something so long was quite daunting but he got the hang and only bumped the bank a few times. I had to do the swing bridge and road bridge and think previous boat women must have had large muscles as it was heavy work. Made it to Foxtons Locks by 5.00pm and he managed a few hours of fishing catching five or six fish (tiddlers). Dinner at a local hostelry and a walk back along the bank to the boat for first night on board.

Tomorrow there are ten locks to navigate ……but by the way back, we’ll be experts!
