Diary of an Edinburgher

Coffee search

This morning we popped along to visit a friend’s elderly mother, who lives nearby. We had home made scones and Tunnock’s wafers. We had a great chat about travels and places we’d all been to - Mary has been just about everywhere.

Then we walked along to investigate the new cafe at the other end of the Meadows. Nice, bright and airy, but when we sat down and consulted the menu, ‘Flat white’ coffees were not mentioned. So if they’re not mentioned, I’m suspicious that they can actually make one. So we didn’t stay. We walked along to the next cafe, which we know does do decent coffees, but the LOUD muzak proved to be just too awful, so we walked along to the next one, which we also knew anyway - Bingo! Quiet background music (Bob Dylan), good coffees and an excellent chocolate brownie. We’ve met the owner’s schnauzer there - Boris - and he and Archie get along fine.

We walked home across the Meadows, though the dark skies hinted at rain, which did not arrive. We could not resist passing the graffitied garages, and were not disappointed.
