Off The Wall

In anticipation of the tiler starting tomorrow, I have cleared the kitchen walls and worktops. Except for the kettle. I don’t want to upset him by saying we can’t make a brew when required. Taking all the plates, plaques and pictures off the wall resulted in all the old, filled in, holes being exposed. It also resulted in new holes, which I have slapped a bit of filler in because the new tiles will be going higher up the wall. For that same reason, I’ve also removed all the cabinet plinths. Tomorrow is going to be the really messy day, as the old glass tiles are removed, but hopefully it will be an improving situation from then on. And that concluded a busy and productive day. First thing this morning, someone called to pick up all the VHS tapes I’d offered for free on the Sell & Seek site (see blip of 31st August). He really only wanted the Red Dwarf ones (of which there were only six left due to me flogging some at the car boot sale yesterday!) but he did accept that it was an “all or nothing” deal, and took the Simpsons ones away as well. If he then chucks them into the bin, it is only where they would have ended up anyway! I then booked the motorbike in for a service and MOT next Friday before going to the gym. Most satisfying thing was to book myself in for the “Via Ferrata Extreme” experience at Honister. I was given a voucher for this by Mrs C at Christmas but waited firstly for Covid restrictions to be lifted and then for the schools to go back, so that it would be quieter. Booked in for Thursday afternoon as that was the day with the least chance of rain according to the forecast. Speaking of Mrs C, I helped her out by printing off the year end financial statements for her WI. Last year the whole end of year process took an entire day before everything was correctly entered and balanced using the paper account book and balance sheet. This year, I’d put it all on computer using the official WI spreadsheet. Not only was it child’s play to move items if they’d been entered in the wrong place, but due to the built in formulas, it was virtually self balancing. After only a little bit of editing I was able to print out a complete set of accounts to pass on to the auditor. And it only took half an hour, including having to change the ink cartridge halfway through and carrying forward the figures to next years spreadsheet!
