River Dee at Glenlochar

Today's the day ...................... for big skies

A gloriously breezy day today that tossed the big white clouds around in a pale blue sky.  The River Dee at Glenlochar was full to the brim, presumably as a result of all that rain in recent days, falling on the Galloway Hills.  This is the view looking southwards towards Screel Hill. 

Behind us here is the Glenlochar Barrage (see extra), part of the Galloway Hydro-Electric Project. It was designed to regulate the water level in Loch Ken to the north but still allow unrestricted flood outflows towards the River Dee to the south.

Apparently, If the loch's water level rises above 45m, the barrage gates automatically lift clear and allow water to dissipate.  But, I'm pleased to say, that everything seemed well under control today - if a bit wind-swept .......................
