One Step Closer
This may not be a very exciting photo, but it represents the first (very small) step on the road to the completion of the work on the house. We have a new socket sitting on a smooth, painted wall above a freshly painted skirting board. It’s only one wall in one room, but it’s a start. I’ve even put the downlights properly back into the ceiling, but all that has done is illustrate how tired they are looking, now the ceiling is smooth and freshly painted. I had resisted the electricians suggestion that we should replace them with modern LED versions but now think we will probably go down that route after all. If we could find some that are a slightly bigger diameter then we can also hide the few minor blemishes that still remain around the actual holes in the ceiling. It was nigh on impossible to totally eradicate those blemishes when the ceiling was smoothed as there was a risk that to attempt to do so would result in the holes becoming too wide to hold the lights securely. By tomorrow morning, the other walls and skirtings will also be dry enough to reattach sockets and the TV bracket, so that will be another step forward.
Our mission over the weekend is to do some grouting behind the bathroom door so that painting can be completed in there, first thing on Monday. We can also look at moving some furniture out of our bedroom and into the lounge. Not it’s final resting place, but we need to start working towards clearing the bedroom fully as nothing at all has been done in that room so far, and there is an awful lot of work required just to get it into a state suitable for painting. I think the plan is to keep moving things out into the other rooms as they are completed, and then just have a concentrated attack on that one remaining space.
There is now a very small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel…
