Turn Back Time
The fact that it’s not yet five o’clock and the lights are on, means only one thing. Today is the day British Summer Time ends and the clocks go back an hour to GMT. Whilst it might be a bit lighter in the mornings now, we are going to have to put up with it getting dark by mid-afternoon for the next few months. Definitely not my favourite time of year - invariably cold and wet, and now dark as well.
This was the last clock to be reset today. It is also the first object to be hung back up on the newly painted walls. It was definitely with a certain amount of trepidation that I picked up the drill - this was definitely not the time to be putting the hole for the mounting screw in the wrong place! But all went smoothly, the clock has been cleaned and set to the correct time, and now hangs back in its rightful place rather than being propped up in the corner of the kitchen!
But that is the only hole I am making in the newly painted walls - for now. I’m not going to even think about hanging pictures until the dust has - literally - settled. I think we need to get the new carpets down, new lights fitted and all the furniture - old and new - in its final resting places. Only then will we be able to decide what goes where. If, indeed, it goes anywhere. We probably have too many pictures and ornaments so might be a bit more circumspect about what we put back up.
Quite strange - but very pleasant - not to be going out to do the play tonight. The last performance went well and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed doing it over the past few months. Three days off now, and then we get stuck into Panto. Sadly, no let up from the decorators just yet. But I’m hoping we are now in the final week - if not the final couple of days. After a weekend of cleaning and checking though, we have discovered there is quite a bit of snagging that will require sorting, so maybe it will end up being the full week after all.
