The Heat is On

Hurrah!
We’ve not had any central heating for the past four weeks and last night the temperature got down close to zero, making it a very chilly start this morning. I phoned the plumber to let him know we would be ready for the radiators to be refitted any time from tomorrow onwards, and was surprised - and very pleased - to hear him say that he could send someone within the hour, as one of the lads had finished a job early. The only slight snag was that the painter still needed to put a second coat on the bedroom walls. I wasn’t going to turn the plumber away, so asked the painter to paint the wall behind where the radiator would go as a matter of priority, so that we had a chance of the paint starting to dry before the radiator was fitted. The rest of the wall(s) could wait until after the radiator was back on.
And thus it proved to be. By mid afternoon, we were once again enjoying a warm house and the timer had been set for winter operation so we know we will also wake up to a warm house tomorrow morning - luxury!
With only a very short snagging list, the painter was definitely on course to finish today, with the only large jobs remaining being second coats on the bedroom walls and woodwork. He did overrun his normal finishing time by half an hour, just to make sure he was completely finished and everywhere was left clean and tidy, but that was much better for him - and us! - than having to come back in the morning. We can only have a short lie in though, as there will be a lot of work to do in order for us to get back in the bedroom by tomorrow night.
And with this part of the work now completed, we are going to go to the gym this evening. No more using the state of the house as an excuse not to go! It’ll be good to be lifting proper weights again rather than just moving lumps of furniture around.
