Every Light in the House

…has been replaced today, apart from the bathroom light which was done just over a year ago. We had only planned to change the bedroom light (new one is pictured) as it was just a simple pendant fitting with a boring shade. But then we saw a nice one that could go in the study. And I saw one on eBay that would look good in the hall. And then we thought the down lights in the lounge and kitchen were looking a bit shabby after the ceilings had been painted. So I asked the electrician if he could recommend a modern replacement that was also a bit wider, to cover the slightly scruffy edges to the holes on the ceiling. Yes he could, and before I knew it I’d asked him to order some and fit them in due course.
Which turned out to be today. We’ve had the electrician with us all day and he has fitted 11 sockets and switches in the kitchen, a total of 15 down lights around the house (plus 3 other assorted light fittings), moved a couple of sockets around so we had a USB socket in the study and finally swapped out and repaired a socket I’d “blown up” trying to fix a loose wire a couple of weeks ago.
So, we sit here tonight with matching sockets throughout the house (all securely fixed to the walls) and a lovely new light in every room (all securely fixed to the ceiling). Not only are the lights new, but they also all use LED technology so we hopefully won’t have to replace them for many years and they should use less electricity.
The only light we couldn’t get to grips with is the outside one. The feeling is that the infra red sensor is fried so it just tries turning the light on all the time - which blows the bulb in very short order. But with it being impossible to access the wiring in the loft, and the fact that we will need to replace the outside light anyway if we have the render replaced, it was decided to just leave the switch unconnected and wait until Spring. And who knows what other electrical needs we might have by then…
