Diary of an Edinburgher

Bubbles and nibbles…

Elizabeth took Archie out, and they got a nice day for it too. The chap upstairs was banging and crashing and sanding floors, so we eventually sat in the kitchen for quite a while, which is OK, as we have extended breakfasts. Though we missed Elizabeth’s arrival at the gate - always a highlight for all concerned. When we did suddenly realise the time, we rushed out - and she was sitting on the bench, waiting patiently! She didn’t want to ring the bell, knowing that Archie goes bonkers at it.

I had a relaxed afternoon, and, abandoning Miriam Margolyes to her rude, sweary ramblings, I started David Mitchell’s book. It’s actually all his newspaper columns, which are short, snappy and very clever. Funny, too.

In the evening when Elizabeth and Archie returned, she stayed with us for drinkies and nibbles, and Christine came too. This was postponed from the week before Christmas, when we suddenly thought we had better not have too many households at once. Still, the bonus is that we have had two soirées.

We polished off the magnum of champagne that Elizabeth gave us for Christmas. And a little more…
