Petersham Nurseries

Despite feeling lethargic I managed to go to Richmond Park to meet some friends for a bike ride to end with a promise of coffee and cake at the Petersham Nurseries Cafe. It was very welcome to get there after about 10 miles anti clockwise in Richmond Park on the Tamsin trail with lots of gradual uphill gradients!

I have not been to this renowned cafe for several months and the casual dining area seems to have been renamed the Teahouse ( it’s actually in a big greenhouse as seen on the right in the photo) with a revised menu. It was so so busy that we had the choice of long wait or sit outside ..which we did. I’m sure the prices have gone up as some pieces of cake were £6.50 as were the scones with clotted cream and spiced apples and cinnamon  jam two of us had. All tasted  very nice !

There is certainly no shortage of people willing to pay these prices in  the area!  Afternoon tea is £45.
Lunch and dinner in the main Petersham Cafe which has a very good reputation and lots of awards, is very expensive, no set menus.
They have also opened another Petersham Cafe in Covent Garden.

It is always nice to look around at the plants they sell which always look in good condition, but are pricey. There are also  lots of quirky containers and decorative objects,  many made of metal and made to look old.  I have never bought any plants there as it is a problem when you don’t go there by car. There is very limited car parking and the access road is very rutted and narrow. I imagine they will deliver…
