Published in 1947!

A couple of books which will be going to the charity shop. We had a box of old books which have not been looked for at least 15 years or maybe even longer. They are all related to various groups of animal life and were being thrown away from the library of a school where I worked a very very long time ago. The school was Villiers High School but the books were from the previous school on the site Southall County Grammar School. I thought they might be of use at the time but……..have not been used.
I decided to check if they are of any value and there are some pristine  copies of the dragonfly book on offer for £68 but the moths one seem to be only about £5. I will give them to the local Farah book shop along with some other old bird books. They often have old books like this on display in the window.

I looked up the authors and found that Cynthia Longford (1896-1991) was the first female member of the Entomological Society and was known as ‘Madame Dragonfly’. 
Richard South (1846-1932) specialised in butterflies and moths. The book here is the 14th print  from 1947well after his death. .  The first edition was published in 1907.

Went to watch the grandchildren playing football this morning and then we all went to Cote for lunch . We are finding our local Cote very disappointing compared to before the pandemic though. Later I  tidied the garage and sorted washing and ironing.
