Lupin shoots
When I checked the flower bed at the front, I noticed new shoots emerging from one of the 4 lupin plants.
I've had this lupin (grown from seed) for about 4 years now and it's always the first one to show signs of growth. Some people on the allotment have told me they can't grow lupins because of slugs but I've found the thick bark mulch deters them (in this area anyway, slugs do eat my veg seedlings!).
This is exciting, I love this flower bed - it's got colourful plants like daffodils, alliums, verbena, foxgloves and echinacea, and I generally plant a few annuals to fill gaps in the summer. It looks really lovely all year round so it's nice to know I'll be able to enjoy it soon!
