Memory

Pre the redecoration, this wall in the kitchen was where we displayed things we had picked up on our travels, or which held particular memories for us. Over the years it had become quite crowded, and with the tiles now going further up the wall it was obvious we would have to plan a bit more carefully when we rehung everything.
Firstly, some of the larger items had to be moved to a different wall and then we hung the four plates. One was a twenty first birthday present for Mrs C from her brother. Part of a set of four, she had always wanted to get them all and I managed to track the others down on eBay a few years back. Once the plates were up, it was just a question of slotting everything else around them, meaning the wall virtually designed itself! Very pleased with the final result, but not sure what we’ll do if we get any more pieces.
Memory has been the theme of the day. This morning we attended the funeral of a neighbour who passed away recently at the grand age of 96. We only knew him for twenty odd years, but his son gave a moving tribute, with many great memories of his fathers life which we knew little about.
And this afternoon I dragged out an old laptop which we are planning to dispose of. The only slight fly in the ointment is what to do about the 10,000 odd photographs stored on it. Mrs C tried editing the files but she is now so indoctrinated into the world of Macs, that she can’t easily navigate around Windows and has given up in disgust. I will have to copy all the files to an external drive, which she can then plug into her MacBook for editing and/or deleting. With 75GB of files to copy, it could take some time…
