Please Mister Postman

Due to the bad weather of recent weeks, it’s been a long time since I walked down into town past this letter box. Today has been quite warm and sunny, so I left the car on the drive (can’t afford to use it anyway the way fuel costs are shooting up!) in favour of fresh air and exercise.
I’ve seen pictures of other letter boxes around the country getting these knitted covers - the media have dubbed it “yarn bombing” - but didn’t realise we’d got one in Kendal until now. Not sure how long it’s been there but it looks pretty clean, so I’m surmising quite recently.
The civic society plaque gives you all the info regarding the creation of the character, though it does have a typo - it’s Beast Banks, not Beast Bank!
And if you want the full Postman Pat immersive experience, you can go for a drive down nearby Longsleddale, the inspiration for the fictional Greendale. The road doesn’t actually go anywhere but there are some great walks from the end of it over Gatescarth Pass to Haweswater, or via Harter Fell to Kentmere (you might want to consider being dropped off at the start of the walk and then picked up at the other end, otherwise it’s a bit of a slog back to your starting point!)
Maybe one to think about doing again when it gets a bit warmer. Maybe.
