Clootie Tree
In the Scots language a cloot is a bit of cloth, often a rag.

I've spent a lot of the last week making a 2 metre high wall hanging out of old strips of cloth. The fabric was all retrieved from a very old quilt. Originally it was two layers of blanket with cotton on both sides. At some point it had been recovered with two new outer layers of cotton fabric making six layers in all. The inner layers were very fragile and had to be backed with interlining. See the extras for the quilt and the work in progress,
As to why, that will have to be revealed in another blip another day soon.
