Apple Blossom
Although I saw lots of lovely blossom yesterday it was mainly from the bus and not available for blips so today we went down to Saughton Gardens to overindulge.
Of apple blossom there was plenty, here, near the café, in the espalier form and as cordons against the boundary wall. Also along the wall are pear, plum and quince - I look forward to seeing these in fruit. The pear blossom had dropped, revealing the starry calyxes (?calices) which I thought were particularly pretty (see extra, top left).
We strolled through the glasshouse, noting that, even here, greenfly can be a problem (extra, top right) but the arum lily and passionflower were in fine form (extra, bottom left and right).
Outside we identified and then saw a Eurasian wren, who nipped away before the camera was out, though birdsong various was a constant.
Herbaceous borders and rosebeds are weeded and trimmed; in general everything is neat and tidy, ready for the summer.
