Creeks

Bleak weather this morning - windy and rainy. I went for a walk from our accommodation, and it wasn't pleasant.

We changed our plan for this afternoon, and headed to Lymington for another marsh walk. The area between Lymington and Keyhaven, a native reserve of 750 hectares, is fantastic. Up to the early 19th century Lymington's wealth was founded on the salt industry, which is where the Georgian town's wealth - still apparent in its many fine buildings - came from. Railways and the mining of salt in Cheshire which could be readily transported around the country put an end to the salt-panning industry on the coast. And now all those derelict panning areas are marshes and water areas and fabulous for wildlife. Lymington remains a prosperous town, it is now Yacht Central (extra).

And importantly, whilst blustery, the rain held off for our walk. We stayed dry, not what had been forecast.
