Saturday: Changed Plans
Even though Ottawa is the capital, international flight connects out of the city are precisely zero. So any trip abroad means transiting. I’m heading to London for some training and was due to fly this evening, via Toronto.
I was half-packed, and pootling round in a leisurely way, when I got a text around lunchtime to say that my Ottawa-Toronto flight was cancelled, meaning I wouldn’t be able to make the London flight. I jumped on the phone lines but the wait time was over 2 hours. I did ascertain that there was an earlier flight to Toronto so decided to just hot foot it the airport and chance my luck.
I had a very sympathetic ticket agent. All flights were full but he just kept refreshing the page and leapt on it when someone miraculously pulled out of a flight. So I got the last seat, but had to go via Montreal instead.
It was all a bit of a hasty departure but I managed to get on the way as I couldn’t afford to fly a day later.
I think having to leave so suddenly might also account for the fact that I’ve packed like an idiot.
