Birdhouse In Your Soul

We fully intended to try and see the Red Arrows fly over Morecambe Bay today, after yesterday’s no show.
However, the scheduled time had been changed to 10.44am, and we were still having breakfast at 10am. As I hate rushing and it was still a bit overcast, we decided to abandon. A wise choice, as it happened, as we subsequently discovered they’d actually flown over an hour earlier than scheduled!
By lunchtime the weather had gone completely downhill - grey, cold and raining - but the desire to purchase a bird table (don’t ask) and the discovery of a voucher from Hayes Garden World in Ambleside, offering 10% off any bird table purchased before the end of July, decided where we should go this afternoon.
Considering it’s the first weekend of the school holidays, there wasn’t a lot of traffic on the roads and Hayes itself was pretty much deserted. Probably down to the miserable weather. We found the display of bird tables, but very rapidly decided we would not be making a purchase today. The cheapest one was about £90 and the large white one in the photo weighs in at an eye-watering £385!! I’ve owned cars that cost less than that. Not very good ones admittedly but, even so, still an actual motor vehicle. And even taking 10% off that £385, does not make the final figure any more palatable.
On the way home, Mrs C randomly started praising the wooden planter I had made for her last summer, out of offcuts from the new deck. She then asked if there were any more offcuts lying around. Enough, say, to construct a bird table. I think I know where this one is going…
