What It Says On The Tin

Katie Melua has a song that references Ronseal’s advertising slogan - who knew! An example of how slogans and phrases invented for adverts sometimes take on a life of their own. Certainly “does exactly what it says on the tin” is a phrase that can be used in many situations.
Today, I was going with a literal interpretation. I was varnishing the top and back of the interior of the wardrobe. I did not want a gloss or coloured finish. A tin of Ronseal, clear, satin finish, interior varnish would seem to fit the bill perfectly. You could almost say it does exactly etc, etc.
I had been meaning to do this earlier in the week, but it’s just been too hot to consider climbing inside a wardrobe armed only with a paint brush. Thankfully, it’s been a little cooler today so I’ve managed to get two coats on the top and some of the back. I say “some” because it rapidly became apparent that the small tin of varnish I had bought was not going to be man enough for the job - especially as there is still the unit in the lounge to do!
Whilst coat number one was drying, therefore, a quick dash to B&Q was required to buy a second - bigger - tin. We should definitely have enough now to varnish everything that needs it, so no more excuses not to crack on. With more cool weather promised, we might actually be in a position by the end of the weekend to move all the clothes and shoe boxes that are currently cluttering up the lounge!
