River Dee
Today's the day ........................ to open the gates
It happens a couple of times a day - and we have a great view of it over our garden fence.
I'm talking about when they make electricity at the Tongland Hydro-Electric Power Station, just a bit upstream on the River Dee. The water is held in a reservoir even further upstream until someone presumably presses a button and the gates open. The water rushes down an enormous pipeline into the Power Station where it turns the turbine (or something like that?!), electricity is made - and then the water is returned into the River Dee, a bit downstream.
This is when it gets to our bit as above, where the river is perhaps sixty feet or so below us. You can hear the water just before it all comes tumbling down in a great torrent. It's very dramatic - specially if it's at low tide and the water level in the river is at its lowest.
And you know that the river has performed its magic again - and another lot of power has been sent to the Grid .................
