Arken Angel
Day 3 of our Danish trip. It’s M’s birthday today so we had some treats in store! First up was breakfast at our favourite neighbourhood dining destination, Grød. We’d had our eye on this place even before our trip, and it doesn’t disappoint. Grød is Danish for porridge, but they do a whole range of delicious breakfasts and lunches https://www.groed.com/menu and I’d happily go there every day.
As we sat in the window seats we watched quite a drama unfold outside as a couple of police cars intercepted two cars with Swedish number plates, escorted about 8 young men from the vehicles, frisked them, searched the cars, and after having been joined by several more police officers and vehicles, cuffed the suspects and drove them away… I briefly wondered whether a new series of ‘The Bridge’ might be in production but I’m afraid this was all too real.
After breakfast we managed to navigate the metro, rail network and bus service successfully and headed down the coast to Arken Museum of Modern Art https://uk.arken.dk which is a beautiful building in a gorgeous beachside location. We spent a very happy couple of hours in the various galleries - including an interesting exhibition about women and gender in art - before repairing to the café for an amazing birthday lunch which M declared the best she’d ever had!
We then had time for a lovely walk along the beach at Ishøj Strand before coming home to put our feet up and plan tomorrow’s adventures…
Here are a selection of today’s birthday portraits of M.
She’s picked today’s tune, which is ‘Know How’ by Kings of Convenience ‘https://youtube.com/watch?v=eKQuwAmIVKA They’re not Danish but as they’re from Norway I figure they’re still suitably Nordic!
